MIDWEST: Man Stealing Copper Wire Electrocuted

WASHINGTON PARK, Ill. (AP) — Police in southern Illinois say a man who appeared to be stealing copper hit a live wire and was electrocuted.

Washington Park police tell the Belleville News-Democrat that the man was found electrocuted early Saturday. Wire cutters and copper wire were found near his body.

Police say the accident caused power outages across the area. Ameren says more than 500 customers without power early Saturday.
