Local Banks Deal With Target Data Breach

IOWA CITY, Iowa - At least one local bank had to call in extra help to deal with the massive data breach at Target. Officials at MidWestOne Bank in Iowa City said they had extra staff over the weekend and Monday working to answer questions and reach out to affected customers.

“We did allocate six individuals to work on this project over the weekend,” said Kim Ross a representative of MidWestOne Bank.

The bank has put together a plan, which they detail on their website.

“We have identified and reissued new Visa check cards for each of the affected MidWestOne Bank cardholder accounts. These cardholders will be notified by postal mail soon, and will receive their new card and PIN within two to three weeks,” a statement reads. “Cardholders of breached cards may continue to use those cards until the new one arrives.”

Target estimates roughly 40 million people could be impacted. The company said people who used their credit or debit cards at their stores between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15 may have had their information stolen. The breach has left banks across the nation scrambling to address potential fraud issues for their customers.
