DUBUQUE, Iowa - Inside Edwards Cast Stone, the Edwards brothers make stone benches every day. But it's not everyday they get to make a little girl's jaw drop.
Earlier this month, Clare Vosberg, 8 raised money to install a "buddy bench" on her school's playground. She says it's a place where lonely students can hang out when they're in a need of a friend.
After hearing of Clare's story, a TV-9 Viewer asked Doug Edwards to donate a bench or two. Instead, the family business is donating 23 of them.
Dog Edwards said, "Anytime a young person goes out in the community with the effort that the she has to help out. I think it's a pretty neat idea to be involved with that. "
Now, instead of one bench at her school, there will be a buddy bench installed at every elementary school in the Dubuque, East Dubuque, and Western Dubuque School Districts.
"I am in a lot of shock right now. This is the first time I've actually been speechless, " said Clare.
Clare says she's thrilled to know her project will now help thousands of kids build friendships and make their community a better place.
"After all the buddy benches, I am going to be moving on to something else," said Clare. "But we don't know what that's going to be yet. "
