NEVADA, Iowa (AP) — An attorney for a Story City woman convicted of killing a 3-year-old boy has filed a motion for a new trial, citing possible jury misconduct.
Amanda Porter was convicted in November of first-degree murder in the 2008 death of Spencer Corson, of Nevada. She was engaged to the boy's father and was caring for the child when he suffered fatal head injuries.
The Ames Tribune says Porter's attorney, Michael Adams, says in a motion that new information shows the jury may have been guilty of misconduct. Adams cites allegations the jury received evidence or information not authorized by the court.
Porter is serving a sentence of life in prison without parole.
