Woman Hospitalized After Two-Car Accident on Glass RoadBy Sam Lane, Reporter
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A woman was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital Wednesday evening after her van ran into a pickup truck at the intersection of Glass Road and Redbud Road in Cedar Rapids.
Cedar Rapids police Sgt. Matt Mullen said the woman, who is around 30 years old, suffered minor injuries. She was transported from the scene by ambulance. The driver of the truck was uninjured and Mullen said charges are pending on the woman. No passengers were in either vehicle. Though the cause of the crash is under investigation, the driver of the truck, Cedar Rapids resident Tom Polehna, said the woman didn’t stop at the stop sign at the bottom of the hill on Redbud. He said he was headed west on Glass after picking up a movie and the woman hit the side of his truck. Lahoucine Ouhamouch, who lives in the nearby Cedarwood Hills Apartments, said he was standing on his balcony when he saw the cars collide near the intersection of the two streets and veer together over the curb on the south side of Glass. The woman was driving quickly down Redbud, he said, confirming she didn’t stop at the stop sign. “It was terrible,” Ouhamouch said, adding he heard a loud bang. Ouhamouch said he’s been living in the apartments for four months and has never seen an accident on the street. The van sustained extensive front end damage and even appeared to be missing a front wheel. The airbags deployed in both vehicles and officials did not know whether the drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Most Popular
