Woman Dies in Fire that Damaged Oskaloosa Home

OSKALOOSA, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a woman has died in a fire that heavily damaged a home she shared with her mother in Oskaloosa.

Fire Capt. Tim Nance says firefighters arrived at the two-story house a little before 4 a.m. Thursday.

Nance says the woman's mother fled to safety, but her daughter could not. He says she had a physical disability that required use of a wheelchair.

Nancy says the daughter lived in the part of the house that had the most intense flames on Thursday. He says firefighters had no choice but to fight the fire from outside the house because it was too dangerous to go inside for a rescue attempt.

The fire cause is being investigated. The women's names have not been released.
