WASHINGTON, Iowa - One person was killed and another person was injured in a head-on collision Monday morning near Washington.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a car driven by Paula M. Lampe, 57, of Keota, was eastbound on 190th Street around 11:35 a.m. when an oncoming asphalt truck driven by Danny L. Noble, 56, of New London, attempted to turn into a business driveway near Kiwi Avenue and struck Lampe's vehicle.

Lampe was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, where she later died, authorities said. Noble was taken by ambulance to Washington County Hospital. Details about his condition were not immediately available.

Noble was working for Norris Asphalt Paving Company of Ottumwa, according to the accident report.

Charges are pending as an investigation continues, the patrol said.
