Winter Disconnection Moratorium Deadline Looming
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - An important deadline is coming up for low income households that get help paying their heating bills. The state's annual winter disconnection moratorium period ends April 1.
If customers don't pay their bills by April 2, energy utilities can legally disconnect their service. The Iowa Utilities Board urges anyone who can't meet that deadline to contact their energy utility companies to set up payment plans.
Also funds are limited for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program or LIHEAP, but it will still accept applications through April 30.
