Williamsburg Bond Vote Up Again

By Adam Carros

WILLIAMSBURG, Iowa -- The Williamsburg school district is coming back to voters with a bond proposal to build a new gymnasium complex.

The new $6.7 million dollar proposal is smaller than the $7.9 million dollar one that failed a year ago.

The school district says the gym would give a better venue for sporting events, improve physical education classes and open up space to host large events.

But many farmers are protesting the proposal, saying the property tax increase that comes with the bond would unfairly hit them harder than homeowners and businesses.

Polls are open in Williamsburg Tuesday until 8:00 pm.
