Wil Haygood Keynote Speaker at NAACP Banquet
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Hundreds came out in downtown Cedar Rapids tonight to hear from an author whose work became a major motion picture this summer.
Wil Haygood wrote "A Butler Well Served By This Election" -- a work that eventually led to the movie "the Butler", about a White House butler who sees decades of notable events.
This is part of the NAACP 2013 "Freedom Fund Banquet" at the Cedar Rapids Convention Center.
Saturday also marked the 71st Banquet, this time with Haygood as the keynote speaker.
"It is very special to be here and talking about this movie really chronicles the civil rights movement and the upheavale and the joy of that movement," said Haygood.
Haygood also noted the historical context of this year, marking 50 years since the March on Washington and other cornerstone events of the American Civil Rights Movement since 1963.
