Widespread ImOn Internet Outage Causes Issues for Customers

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- An Internet outage caused problems for ImOn Communication's cable-modem customers on Thursday.
The cable, phone and Internet company provides services for residents in Cedar Rapids and Marion.
Jeff Janssen, ImOn's vice president of sales and marketing, said a hardware malfunction caused the outages at around 3 p.m. Thursday. No fiber-to-home customers were affected, and there were no problems with TV or phone services, he said.
"This was the first wide-spread outage we've had in years," he said.
The outages caused ticketing and sound problems during Theatre Cedar Rapids and Orchestra Iowa's opening performance of the "Music Man" at Paramount Theatre.
Sound board settings were wiped, which caused unexpected microphone glitches. But the system was fixed after intermission.
Ticket sellers also ran into problems, using their phones and "hot spots" to process walk-in orders.
By Friday morning, most of ImOn's Internet services had been restored but were "slow and intermittent," Janssen said. He would not release the number of customers affected by the outages.
