West Branch Man Charged With Child Porn Worked At Day Care
By Mark Carlson, Iowa City Bureau Chief
WEST BRANCH, Iowa - A West Branch man facing child pornography charges works with a local daycare provider, according to a weekend statement from the school district obtained by KCRG-TV9.
Iowa City police said Brady Verlo, 22, admitted to having about 400 photos and videos of child porn on his cell phone and more than 1,000 images on his home computer.
The West Branch Day Care Center works with the school district and offers a “Kids Club” program at the elementary school. Verlo was not identified directly in the statement, which only referred to the offender as “an employee of the West Branch Day Care Center,” although he was the only person arrested on such charges in West Branch on Friday.
“The W.B.C.S.D. (West Branch Community School District) is working with local and state authorities and will provide ongoing assistance as requested,” the online statement said. “The West Branch Chief of Police, Mr. Mike Horihan, has been in direct and ongoing communications with the Iowa City Police Department investigation contacts.”
Attempts to contact both the school district and community day care center have been unsuccessful.
A 2010 online article from the West Branch Times also identifies Verlo as a youth wrestling club volunteer.
Verlo remains in the Johnson County Jail, where he is being held on a $30,000 bond.
