West Branch Fire Destroys Home; Displaces Two People

WEST BRANCH, Iowa - Officials are investigating the cause of a rural Johnson County fire that destroyed a house and displaced two people Monday, authorities said.

Officials responded to a roof on fire at 5050 Highway 6 SE near Kinderfarm Early Childhood Learning Center around 7:30 p.m. No one was injured, but the homeowners have found a place to stay since the house is no longer in livable condition, West Branch Fire Chief Kevin Stoolman said.

About seven other departments responded to the residential fire, Stoolman said. The West Branch Fire Department did not go back into service until around 1 a.m. The damage from the fire was only to the house, and did not reach Kinderfarm, Stoolman said.

Stoolman did not know if the residents owned Kinderfarm. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
