WATERLOO - A Waterloo woman pleaded guilty July 2 in U.S. District Court to defrauding Medicaid of more than $43,000.
Jo Ann Scott, 48, was convicted of one count of health care fraud and one count of mail fraud. Scott at the pleading hearing admitted that between October 2004 and January 2009, she submitted false claims to Medicaid for services that were not provided. She used the name and provider number of another person and had the Medicaid payments sent to locations under her control.
In many instances, Scott negotiated the Medicaid checks at a Waterloo car dealership and applied a portion of the proceeds to her car payment and received any remaining money in cash.
Scott faces up to 30 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
