WATERLOO, Iowa – A Waterloo man who was hospitalized following a Sunday evening attack was stabbed in the ear, police said.
Rafael Garcia-Vargas, 21, also suffered at least nine other stab wounds to his side and an arm, according to court records. Paramedics took Garcia-Vargas to Allen Hospital, and police said his injuries weren’t life threatening. Officers found the alleged assailant, 17-year-old Jose Luis Jaramillo, leaving the house with a knife in his hand when they arrived. He dropped the weapon, and authorities detained him for willful injury causing serious injury and going armed with intent. He was charged as an adult, court records indicate. The attack happened shortly before 7 p.m. inside a home at 813 Dawson St. Police said Jaramillo forced his way into an upstairs bedroom where Garcia-Vargas was with a witness. A fight followed, and Jaramillo then retreated downstairs and grabbed a knife from the kitchen, court records state. He returned and stabbed Garcia-Vargas, records state. Most Popular
