WATERLOO, Iowa — Waterloo police have arrested five people in connection with a robbery and shooting over the weekend.

A Monday release from the Waterloo police department said Waterloo police and fire were called to Gates Park, at the 200 block of Lester Street, just after 10 p.m. Sunday night for a report of a shooting.

The investigation revealed that a 17-year-old male and his father had gone to the park to purchase an iPad from a person. While waiting for the person, police said several men approached their car and ordered them out of it, robbed them, and shot the 17-year-old in the leg.

Upon further investigation, police arrested Jalen Jahmal Gary, 17, Al Campbell, 15, Devin Thoummany Byrd, 17, Quintorey Farshawn D'quan Kemp, 16, and Devon Lee Martin, 17, all of Waterloo. All five were arrested for first-degree robbery, a Class B felony, and willful injury.

After a search at 223 Webster Street in Waterloo, the address for Martin, police recovered a handgun and a revolver used in the robbery.
