WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - Got an overdue book from the Waterloo Public Library? For the cost of a few cans of food, you can erase those library fines.

The Waterloo Public Library will waive fines for patrons who donate canned or nonperishable food items through Feb. 15.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that each item brought to the library is worth $2 toward the payment of existing fines, excluding fees for lost books and materials.

All food items collected will be donated to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank.
