Washington Man Gets Probation for Arson
WASHINGTON, Iowa - A Washington man will spend five years on probation for setting a house fire last October.
53-year-old Jonathan Beam pleaded guilty to second degree arson in January. He could have faced up to 10 years in prison. The judge also fined Beam $1,000 and ordered him to pay court costs.
Police said Beam intentionally started a fire in the house at 2180 Lexington Boulevard in Washington where he was living. The house is right across the street from the Washington County Jail.
Sheriff's deputies in Nebraska arrested Beam two days later.
No one was hurt in the fire.
