CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Holiday shoppers at Von Maur in Lindale Mall get an extra treat this holiday season. Michael Phelan is there to play their favorite tunes and to keep the husbands busy while their wives shop.

"I enjoy bringing my music and my experience to the public like this, it's kind of an informal way to do it," Phelan said.

Phelan has been playing piano for more than three decades. He started when he was in fourth grade. Then he taught piano for 27 years. After teaching for so many years, he wasn't finished playing yet, so he decided to share his love for the piano with the shoppers at Von Maur.

Those that work at Von Maur said it really adds to the customer experience, especially for those who would rather have live music.

"They come over and comment, 'You made my day,' or 'It was just what I needed,' or some of them, 'I've been in this store too long because you've been playing,'" Phelan said.
