DUBUQUE, Iowa - A school employee killed Tuesday in an early-morning accident at Dubuque Community Schools was identified today as Lawrence Steven Brehm, 33.

The accident happened early around 5 a.m. Police say Brehm was working in a parking lot outside the district’s buildings and grounds department when he was hit by a snowplow truck driven by Dale Michael Metcalf, 48, of Asbury.

Brehm, an electrician in the district's maintenance department, died at the scene, officials said.

"It’s a very close knit group of fine men who’ve worked together for a long time, and this is a tragedy certainly for the family and for the school district, but certainly for that department," district superintendent Dr. Larie Godinez said Tuesday. "They work very closely together.”

Grief counselors were on scene talking to co-workers Tuesday.

Dubuque police investigators say the investigation may take several weeks to complete. Specific details are not being released.

Brehm had been employed by the district since 2005. He is survived by his wife Wendy and three young children.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Hoffmann, Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home in Dubuque.
