CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- You usually hear about veterans being honored with an American flag. On Thursday, it was veterans handing out flags to honor a class of Cedar Rapids students.
The 40 & 8 Society handed out the flags to 72 fist graders at Cleveland Elementary after they recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Veterans also took time to explain the pledge and what it means to the students.
"I just can't do it enough, and the schools are helpful. They enjoy it," said Bob Feiereisen with the 40 & 8 Society. "They like us to come out so it is just a lot of fun. I just really enjoy working with the kids. "
This year, the 40 & 8 Society has passed out flags to more than 200 students in Iowa.
