Urban Farm Helps Celebrate First Day of Fall
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Fall officially started Sunday, and some people gathered in Cedar Rapids to celebrate. Matthew 25 Ministry invited neighbors out to its urban farm for a fall inspired potluck dinner made with fresh produce. The group aims to teach healthy habits through its urban farm, and a big part of that is emphasizing clean eating.
"We have a problem with too many of us being overweight and we need to learn more about eating healthy food, eating green food, and fresh locally grown food," Jerry Oakland, a coordinator with Matthew 25 said.
Urban Farm organizers say the farm is helping shift the food culture in Cedar Rapids. The Urban Farm came to be after four houses were destroyed in the 2008 flood. The farm was then planted on those lots.
