OSSIAN, Iowa - News of a man-hunt spread all through the small town of Ossian and surrounding areas in Winneshiek County.

It started early Tuesday morning when someone called police after hearing the sound of gun shots near South Winn School in Calmar.

Police say Dan Wildman escaped from the scene on a four wheeler. They later found him in a cornfield east of Ossian.

After police arrested Wildman, investigators still spent several hours searching a farmhouse on Hall Street. State Patrol airplanes circled a nearby cornfield.

Despite those efforts troopers said they are not looking for a second person.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Brian Senne said, "the planes are up there right now just flying over the farm residence as we are doing that search to see what information we can come up with at that residence. "

Wildman is in the Winneshiek County jail but he doesn't face any new charges. Deputies arrested him on outstanding warrants.

The nearby schools that were on lock down have since been cleared.
