UI Health Alliance Names Executive Director

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The University of Iowa Health Alliance Wednesday announced Dan Kueter will be executive director of the alliance, which includes numerous hospitals across the state.

The organization was formed in June 2012, and includes the Mercy Health Network, Genesis Health System, Mercy Medical Center-Cedar Rapids and University of Iowa Health Care.

Kueter, 43, was most recently the president and chief executive officer of UnitedHealthcare for Iowa and Central Illinois. His appointment, made by the alliance board of directors, is effective immediately.

Kueter will help the alliance meet shared goals of improving quality and patient experience, lowering costs and enhancing the health in communities the hospitals serve, officials said.

"The innovation imperative in health care delivery has never been as strong as it is today," UI Vice President for Medical Affairs Jean Robillard said in a statement. "We are well-positioned to coordinate our collective talents and skills in patient care, education and research in a whole new way to benefit the communities we serve, while ensuring high quality care."

Kueter said in the statement his first order of business will be to reach out to other members of the health care industry.

A native of Cedar Falls, Kueter has a bachelor's degree from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, and a MBA from Harvard Business School. His 20 years of experience includes service as a captain in the U.S. Army.
