Two People Killed After SUV, Semitrailer Crash
PORTSMOUTH, Iowa (AP) — The collision between a sport utility vehicle and a semitrailer has killed both drivers in western Iowa.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident occurred around 4:35 p.m. Sunday on Iowa Highway 44, about two miles east of Portsmouth.
The westbound SUV was towing a boat and was being driven by 63-year-old John Smith, of Portsmouth. The patrol says the SUV crossed the center line as it went around a curve. It struck the oncoming semitrailer, which was being driven by 64-year-old Dennis Johnson, of Luverne, Minn.
The patrol says both drivers were killed and that a passenger in the SUV, 68-year-old Mary Smith, of Portsmouth, was taken to a hospital.
