WAVERLY, Iowa - Waverly's fire chief confirmed Friday the identites of two men killed in a grain bin accident.

Chief Dennis Happel says Rick Schneider and his son Adam Schneider were pulled from a bin at Schneider Milling on Thursday afternoon.

While Happel did not say whether the men died, KCRG confirmed with a funeral home that both Schneider's died Thursday. Services for the men are pending.

Investigators say the two men were performing maintenance at Schneider’s on Highway 3 when they had to be extricated. A team of at least 18 Waverly firefighters cut into the bin, which contained grain about 8 to 10 feet deep, to pull them out.

Waverly Fire Chief Dennis Happel said he was not clear whether “atmospheric conditions” within the bin cause them to become overcome or trapped.
