WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office says it and the Waterloo Police Department will be consolidating crime labs and staffs.

A news release from the sheriff's office says the consolidated lab will begin its work on July 1.

Officials praised the move as a fiscally responsible way to bring more consistency to criminal investigations.

The Black Hawk County Consolidated Crime Lab will work out of the police department at first but soon will be looking for room to expand.
