URBANDALE, Iowa (AP) — A truck driver has died after being run over by his own rig at a U.S. Postal Service distribution center in Urbandale.
The Des Moines Register reports that 46-year-old Carl Magee, of Perkin, Ill., died Friday, a day after the accident.
Investigators say Magee jumped onto his truck Thursday afternoon after it slipped out of gear and started to roll. Magee lost his balance and the truck ran over him.
James Aten, the center's safety captain, says Magee's was the fourth runaway truck since the center changed its unloading policy 18 months ago.
Aten says the center used to have truckers park their rigs, and a specialized truck would take the trailer to the center's dock. Now, Aten says, drivers must back their rigs to the dock themselves.
