Sheriff's Deputy Injured in Clayton County Crash

    CLAYTON COUNTY, Iowa - A Clayton County Sheriff's Deputy suffered minor injuries in a Tuesday night crash. Deputy Craig Johnson was conducting a traffic stop on Iowa 18 when another driver rear-ended his car.

    The crash occurred around 10:15 p.m. Both the Clayton County Sheriff's Department and the Iowa State Patrol responded to the scene.

    Another deputy said they witnessed 84-year-old Mary Svendsen driving down the right shoulder before she hit the back of Johnson's car. Svendsen was also hospitalized, her current condition is unknown.

    The emergency lights on Deputy Johnson's car were on at the time of the crash. This crash is still under investigation.
