Trial Delayed for Man Charged with Hurting Child
OTTUMWA, Iowa (AP) — Trial has been delayed for an Ottumwa man charged with injuring a toddler he was babysitting.
The Ottumwa Courier reports 19-year-old Dustin Dewayne Armstrong's trial is set for Dec. 3. Armstrong's attorney sought the delay.
Armstrong has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of child endangerment.
The charges stem from an April 22 incident in which police were called to an Ottumwa home where a 2-year-old boy was unresponsive. He was taken to an Ottumwa hospital, and then flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He's now undergoing therapy in Des Moines.
Armstrong says the toddler had a seizure. Before calling police, Armstrong changed the boy's pants, put him to bed and started a load of laundry.
He's being held in the Wapello County Jail.
