Tipton Seeks Police Drug Dog
TIPTON, Iowa (AP) - The eastern Iowa city of Tipton wants a dog.
The Quad-City Times reports that the city has applied for a $17,000 grant from a nonprofit organization, K9s 4 Cops, which helps supply police departments with drug-sniffing dogs.
Officials say if the city succeeds, a Tipton police dog would be the only one available within a 45-minute drive around the city.
The Tipton City Council recent voted to bid $3,500 for a used Crown Victoria police car to transport a police dog, and a kennel for the car has already been donated.
Officials say that if the K9s $ Cops grant is rejected, other grant applications will be made for a police dog.
