FAIRFIELD, Iowa – Three young men have died after a one-vehicle accident Wednesday night just west of Fairfield, authorities said.

According to the Iowa State Patrol’s crash report, Martin L. Durflinger, 23 of Ottumwa, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro westbound at a high rate of speed on Old Highway 34 near Hemlock Avenue when he lost control on a curve and the car struck a light pole. The vehicle rolled numerous times and came to a rest in the southbound ditch.

Two passengers, Robbie D. Abel, 23, of Hedrick, and Harry R. Blodgett, 21 of Brighton, were ejected from the vehicle and were not wearing seat belts at the time of the wreck, officials said.

The Iowa State Patrol said Durflinger was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, and was trapped inside the vehicle when authorities arrived.

All of the car's occupants died from their injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
