Three People Injured When Train Strikes Truck in Cedar County

DURANT, Iowa - An Iowa Interstate Railroad train heading west out of Durant struck a pickup truck at a private crossing injuring three people. Durant is located in Cedar County near the Scott County line.
A railroad spokesperson said the train was traveling at approximately 40 miles per hour when it hit a vehicle at the crossing on private property. The vehicle was exiting the Durant Iron & Metal works plant at 2226 Highway 927. The railroad official said the accident happened at 8:18 a.m.
A state patrol trooper who investigated the crash said a driver, age 51, was behind the wheel when the train struck the passenger side of the truck. The crash also injured two juveniles.
All three were taken to Genesis Hospital in Davenport with serious, but non life threatening injuries.
Authorities have not yet identified the victims.
