IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa City police say three people were hospitalized and three people were arrested after an altercation early Sunday morning.
Police responded to 406 S. Gilbert St on reports of a large group yelling at 3:05 a.m. The fight began at the entrance of the building after a group at street level was in a verbal confrontation with a group yelling derogatory remarks from a second-floor balcony.
Police say Jason K. Anderson, 22, of Clinton, was in a verbal altercation with several people on the balcony and proceeded to attack one of the subjects who came down to confront him.
Anderson allegedly punched and head butted the man repeatedly while he was on the ground. The man sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital, according to police. Police say Anderson then attacked another man who was standing inside the main entrance. The second man was knocked unconscious and sustained injuries around his mouth and nose, according to police.
Police say Anderson allegedly fled the scene on foot, but was located two hours later with a red mark on his forehead and blood on his jeans. Anderson told police he had been fighting to defend himself.
Anderson was charged with assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor, and was released from jail Sunday.
After an investigation, police charged Stephen S. Ragalie, 20, of Iowa City, with disorderly conduct and public intoxication after witnesses said Ragalie provoked the fight.
Ragalie was injured in the fight and sustained a cut to his forehead. Police said Ragalie was hospitalized for the injury.
Ragalia was released from jail at 12:05 p.m. Sunday.
Jeremy Wayne Anderson, 23, of DeWitt, was also charged with disorderly conduct from the altercation.
