WATERLOO, Iowa - Police in Waterloo say their department's Bomb Unit was called in to deactivate an explosive device Wednesday evening.

Police were first called to the Liberty Car Company around 3:40 p.m. because a woman had not returned from a vehicle test drive. When police were at the company, the woman returned. Officers spoke to both her and a man they identified as 33-year-old Danie Devries.

During their investigation, police arrested Devries for Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. After this arrest, police found a suspicious device they believed was a homemade bomb.

The Bomb Unit responded and Devries was charged with Possession of an Incendiary Explosive Device and/or Material.

Police blocked traffic on East Mullan/Highway 63 until just before 10 p.m. as they worked at the scene.
