Teen Killed in Rollover Crash Near Decorah

POSTVILLE, Iowa – One teenager died and another was injured in a rollover crash Monday night near Postville.

Melody Simmonds, 16, of Decorah, was killed when she lost control of a sport-utility vehicle on Highway 52 near 120th Avenue around 10:10 p.m., according to the Iowa State Patrol. A passenger, 16-year-old Brandon Grocholski, of Elkader, was injured.

Authorities said the SUV was southbound on Highway 52 when it went into the north ditch and rolled several times. Simmonds was pinned underneath the vehicle and died at the scene.

Police extricated Grocholski from the vehicle and he was transported by ambulance to Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. He was later airlifted to a La Crosse, Wisc. hospital, authorities said. Information about his condition was not immediately available.
