Teal Ribbons Emphasize Ovarian Cancer Awareness

By Katie Stinson

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - An "old" saying is "we'll paint the town red" but today some chose "teal" -- for the color of ribbons. The organization Never Give Up! hung ribbons in several downtown spots today, all to raise awareness for ovarian cancer. The Never Give Up! president says there are many reasons why people should learn more about the disease.

"We just want to raise awareness because ovarian cancer is not a widely known cancer. So we want women especially to be aware of the symptoms and get in and get checked early," president Dawn Fields, said.

The ribbons will stay up through the end of September. Never Give Up! will also host its second annual Ovarian Cancer Awareness Walk in Cedar Rapids on Sunday, September 8th.
