CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Several rounds of severe weather moved through Iowa Sunday producing large hail, strong winds and reports of several tornadoes.
Tree damage was been reported across the city of Cedar Rapids, several roads were blocked by trees and other debris. There were reports of damage Benton, Linn, Jones and Delaware Counties caused by the storms Sunday night.
Several thousand Alliant Energy customers lost power as the storms moved through Eastern Iowa late Sunday evening. More than 40,000 customers were without power, including 27,000 in Linn County alone.
Alliant Energy said that nearly all the outages are from trees that came down on power lines during the storms. Alliant said that damage will likely to take several hours to repair, going into the daytime hours Monday in some areas.
The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in the Story County city of Huxley about 7 p.m. Sunday.
There were no reports of injuries or damage.
Grundy County officials reported a tornado touching down later in that county.
Meteorologist Kaj O'Mara said that another round of severe weather is possible again on Monday afternoon into the evening hours.
