State Investigation Ongoing into Iowa Veterans Home
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - More than six months after the head of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown resigned following investigations into allegations he treated staff poorly, the Iowa Obmudsman has revealed she's investigating complaints that veterans who live at the home were mistreated.
Ombudsman Ruth Cooperrider told the Senate Government Oversight Committee Tuesday she is conducting an ongoing investigation. She says she was initially refused access to reports from the Iowa Department of Administrative Services into allegations that former Commandant David Worley harassed and threatened workers. Only after she signed a nondisclosure agreement was her staff allowed the view reports.
The oversight committee is investigating a number of issues in the executive branch of government including how the government responds to harassment complaints.
Worley resigned on Oct. 1.
