WATERLOO, Iowa -- Friday marks the grand opening of the new Cedar Valley SportsPlex in Waterloo.

The facility features an aquatics area with an indoor water slide, an indoor soccer field, full size gym, indoor track, cardio workout area, and children's playroom.

The $27 million building was paid for with private funds donated to the city.

Waterloo city officials want the SportsPlex to be more than just a fitness center -- they want it to be a community center. There are two meeting spaces inside the facility that can accommodate groups of two or 200. There is also space available to rent for children's birthday parties.

An open house is being held Friday from 3 to 6 p.m., during which the facility will be free and open to the public. The center will be open for regular business hours starting Saturday, Jan. 18.
