South Slope Workers Reject New Contract
NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa - Union workers *unanimously voted* down a contract offer from South Slope Communications in North Liberty Sunday afternoon.
The votes comes after the communication company turned away 55 members from their jobs on Friday after their labor contract expired.
The union -- Communication Workers of America -- said it wasn't happy with the new wage program laid out in the contract. For some job titles, it's reportedly a 30% pay cut.
"As soon as they voted, I called the company attorney to request bargaining. We'd like to go back to the bargaining table to see if we can come up with a better agreement next time," said Kay Pence, a CWA representative.
The union members also made an offer to continue working while the negotiations continue.
On Friday, South Slope said its employees in management positions were serving customers.
