JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa - A Solon man is accused of third-degree burglary and criminal mischief after police say he stole numerous drink items and LCD projectors from locations throughout the town in June.
Complaints from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said Tyler Yakish, 20, broke into two schools, a convenience store, and a recreation center where he took items including a nacho cheese dispenser, Gatorade, water, and LCD projectors.
Police said Yakish broke into the concession stand at the Solon Recreation Center and stole pop and a nacho cheese dispenser that was later found at his home. Complaints said Yakish also broke into RJ’s, where he is accused of stealing beer and cigarettes.
In addition, complaints said Yakish stole four LCD projectors and a large safe — with help from two others — from Solon Middle School. During an interview, police said Yakish admitted to breaking into Solon High School with intentions to steal money from an ATM.
Yakish caused $1,000 in damage to the school by breaking a door, ATM, and vending machine to steal Gatorade and water from the facility, complaints said.
Yakish is accused of six counts of third-degree burglary, a Class D felony, and one count of criminal mischief.
