CLEAR LAKE, Iowa (AP) - A city snowplow driver in northern Iowa is being hailed as a hero for calling police after spotting an elderly man without a coat or shoes outside in Friday's blizzard.

Clear Lake snowplow driver Dennis Rinnels tells the Mason City Globe Gazette that he was clearing a road near the Iowa Department of Natural Resources fish hatchery about 1:30 a.m. when he saw the 82-year-old man in the road. He called police on his city-issued two-way radio.

Police say the man, who suffers from dementia, was able to give his name, and officers located his home and wife. The man was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
