Sexual Abuse Charges Against Former Cedar Falls Basketball Coach Dropped

  • Photo
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) Prosecutors have dropped a second set of sexual abuse charges against a Cedar Falls man who once coached basketball for children.

Assistant County Attorney Linda Fangman says the state dismissed the charges against 61-year-old Gary Lee Alexander in light of his conviction in December of three counts of sexual abuse. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison and must serve more than 17 years before parole eligibility.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports Alexander was accused in the first case of abusing a girl in his basketball program when she was 11. The abuse continued for several years.

The second case was in connection to a girl who claimed she was abused between the ages of 12 and 16. Fangman says the victim is satisfied with Alexander's recent sentence.
