At about 12:30 p.m. Monday, a construction crew cut one of Mediacom's main fiber optic trunk lines near Vinton, according to Mediacom spokesperson Phyllis Peters. The is affecting up to 30,000 customers in Black Hawk County and areas along Highway 20 including Independence and Manchester. Oelwein along with parts of Butler, Grundy and Hardin Counties are also affected.
Peters said the line should be fixed and internet service should be restored by 6:30 p.m.and the break should only have affected internet service. Peters says phone service would only have been affected if users tried to re-boot their phone modems.
