MARION, Iowa – A local man was killed in a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon and a woman was severely injured, police said.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., three motorcycles were traveling northbound in the curb lane of Hwy 13 when 18-year-old Jagger Allen Glubka, driving a green SUV coming west from Hennessey Parkway struck one of the motorcycles, Marion Police Chief Harry Daugherty said.
The driver of the motorcycle, Matthew Lyle Dunkel, 40 of Marion, was killed in the crash, and his female passenger, Tami Marie Mysak, 51 of Springville, suffered head and internal injuries, Daugherty said. Dunkel was transported to Mercy Medical Center by Area Ambulance at approximately 6 p.m. Mysak was transported to a local hospital as well.
Glubka, driver of the green SUV, was transported to Mercy Hospital for dizziness, Daugherty said.
Both northbound lanes of Hwy 13 were blocked in the area for more than two hours. At 6:30 p.m., police said the lanes could be blocked for another hour.
Lynn Chrzan, wife of the owner of Woods to Wedges driving range at the intersection where the crash occurred, said she and her husband have seen at least four accidents occur at the intersection since they opened in June.
According to Chrzan, cars “whip around” the corner often.
Daugherty said the investigation is ongoing, and investigators are working to determine how the crash occurred.
