DES MOINES, Iowa - Retiring Iowa Senator Tom Harkin announced his support for Representative Bruce Braley to replace him on Saturday.
Harkin announced in January that he wouldn't seek an additional term in 2014. After meeting with Democratic leaders in Washington, including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Braley announced his campaign in early February.
Since then there has been a lot of speculation about who would run against him on the Republican side. Congressman Tom Latham considered, and then declined, to run for the seat. Congressman Steve King has not made a decision one way or the other, but he was considering his options. So far, no Republican candidate has declared their intention to oppose Braley.
On Monday the Braley campaign announced it had already raised more than $1 million dollars for his election.
