Senate Judiciary Committee Approves Jane Kelly as 8th Circuit Appeals Judge

A group of about 300 joggers and walkers head south of 29th Street NE on the Cedar River Trail at the start of the "take back the trail" event Wednesday, June 29, 2005. The event marked the one-year anniversary of when Jane Kelly of Cedar Rapids was brutally attacked near the same site on the trail. Kelly led the group.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Senate Judiciary Committee approved Jane Kelly as an 8th Circuit appeals judge. Kelly previously served as the supervising attorney in Cedar Rapids.

Senator Tom Harkin says she was approved by a bi-partisan vote.

The nomination now goes on to the full U.S. Senate for consideration. If confirmed, Kelly will be only the second woman in history to serve on the 8th Circuit.
