FAYETTE, Iowa - Nine days after a drug bust in the early morning hours of Christmas, the Fayette County Sheriff is hoping someone can lead them to two former Upper Iowa University football players.

"If anybody knows these subjects, notify us," Sheriff Martin Fisher said.

Investigators have charged Jerek Bowe, 25, and Duke Ewan, 21, both of Fayette with manufacturing marijuana and other felony drug charges.

The Sheriff's Office said a tip call came in just hours before four deputies and two state troopers were at 106 Mechanic Street to execute a search warrant. Fisher said his department's K9 unit was dispatched to the eight-unit apartment complex and the dog's findings qualified for probable cause.

A deputy then drove to Oelwein to obtain the signature of a magistrate for the search warrant.

At about 2:30 a.m. on Christmas morning, investigators found "numerous plants, equipment, chemicals and heat lamps used in the manufacturing of marijuana." One nearby neighbor, who spoke to KCRG-TV9 on the condition of anonymity, said they watched the entire operation in those wee hours as law enforcement officers and deputies "took basket after basket" of drugs out of the house. The evidence is now in West Union at the Sheriff's Office.

"There is still an ongoing need for enforcement in the drug scene that's going on," Fisher said. "Not just here in Northeast Iowa but in the state."

    Bowe's charges:

    - Manufacturing of Marijuana (Class B Felony)

    - Five counts of Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp (Class D Felonies)

    Ewan's charges:

    - Manufacturing of Marijuana (Class B Felony)

    - Six counts of Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp (Class D Felonies)

As for the suspects' connections to the Upper Iowa University football program, Duke Ewan, 21, was listed in the 2011 football roster as a junior from Clewiston, Fla. Jerek Bowe, 25, is listed on a 2009 roster as a redshirt freshman linebacker from Naples, Fla. An extensive search of the 2012 football roster did not uncover either Ewan nor Bowe on the team.
