Scouts Collect 20,000 Pounds for Food Banks

By Adam Carros

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Hundreds of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts collected food from eastern Iowa front yards to help feed those in need.

All told, scouts collected more than 20,000 pounds of food for the annual Scouting for Food drive. Postal workers distributed bags last week for people to fill with food and set out at the mailbox today.

Volunteers today gathered all the food and brought it to Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids. There, more volunteers boxed up the food to send to the HACAP food bank.
